Power Play Cup |

The LFC U12 girls were in Edmonton this weekend to play in the Power Play Cup. In their first game the girls faced a Sherwood Park team. LFC fired a number of shots on net, but the Sherwood Park goal tender handed the girls a 3-0 loss. In the girls second game, the Edmonton Extreme threw everything at the LFC, but they managed to come back from a 2-0 deficit and a 2 player shortage due to fouls, to tie the game at 2-2. Nicole Stahl and Mikhi Lagemaat netted the goals for the LFC. The loss and the tie resulted in the team playing in the consolation round against a second Sherwood Park team. The 7AM game found the LFC playing hard and produced a 5-2 victory. Goals were scored by Mikhi Lagemaat, Amy Gruninger, Jamie Brown, Megan Clark, & Katherine White. Karley Marance and Emily Eremenko shared net duties on all the games. |

Here is a 3 min video from Stan Van Gundy, coach with the Miami Heat. He talks a bit about athlete development and the process that it takes. Although he is talking about basketball there is a lot of relevance to our situation in developing soccer players. Please feel free to share this with your parents players, or anyone who might be interested.

LFC Player on U16Girls team donates hair |

On Aug. 11, our 15 year old daughter, Danielle, did something very drastic. She cut off about 18 inches of her blonde hair and donated it to the Canadian Cancer Association. The following is what she wrote to her friends and family to let them know: Hey all, I wanted to let you know that I cut about 18 inches of hair off today. It was donated to the Canadian Cancer Society to be made into a wig for a current cancer patient. I decided to donate my hair for cancer because I have known and heard about many people among our family and our friends that have had cancer or know a loved one that has it. Stephanie Gruca was 12 years old when she was taken by cancer. She played for the chargers at the same time I did. She was only 1 year younger than me. A 16 year old girl in my church recently found out she had a brain tumor. She has gone through surgery and is now awaiting a check up with her doctors. A number of people in my family have had cancer. One of these was Uncle Casey, my grandpa's brother. There are so many people with cancer. There is hardly any one who has not been affected by cancer. Family, friends, friends of family and aquaintances. My prayers go out to all of the people with cancer today and all their friends and family. I also pray for a cure so that the suffering through this disease may cease. These people, whether they survived the cancers in them or not, have had a profound impact on our lives. I have not found the cure. I have not donated millions of dollars to research. I donated my hair. A part of me that was a blessing and that I loved. I am giving it away so that someone else may enjoy it while they are going through an extremely difficult time in their lives. It is a small contribution. I hope it will lead to more in my future and I hope that it will make a difference, no matter how small, and someone will be effected by it. I encourage all of you to do what you can for others. Our time on earth is short. We need to do the best we can with what God has given us and use our God given gifts and talents to bless others and to glorify Him. |
