The Lethbridge Football Club (LFC) would like to send out enormous congratulations to six locals who have secured spots on the Alberta Provincials Teams. This is an accomplishment for the players as well as a club as it is the greatest number of individuals we have had to represent Lethbridge on provincial squads in one year.
Sunder West and Lyndee Saler are two of the six girls who have secured spots on provincial squads. West and Saler will represent Lethbridge on the U13 Alberta South Provincial Squad that will participate in the Montana Cup Competition at the University of Montana, Missoula Montana, July 6-12th.
Sunder joins the provincial team for the second year in a row as a multi-talented athlete who brings many talents to the soccer field. Her incredible endurance, coupled with her speed and ability to finish had her working as a mid-field for the LFC team and now as a Striker for the provincial team.
Lyndee and her speed, skill, hard work, determination, and a strong left foot secured her a spot on the provincial squad. Although her spot on the LFC program is as a mid-fielder, the provincial squad wishes to utilize her as a left defender. Lyndee will definitely be a force to reckon.
Olivia Viergutz, Erin Smith, and Jesse Dueck have made the U14 Alberta Provincial Team that with Travel to Laval, Quebec July 21 - 26, 2009. The U14 Alberta Team will participate in the U14 All-Stars Nationals which will have the best of the best players from across the country. The U14 All-Star Nationals is a key time for players as it is an event used by the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) to scout players for National training center programs and Canadian National Teams.
Viergutz returns to the provincial squad for her third year in a row. As a veteran, Olivia not only brings her wisdom, but also her ability to control a game courtesy of her incredible skill on the ball. This ability, coupled with her great shot and passion for the sport, has found her filling a number of roles both on her club team and the provincial squad: striker, interior mid-field, and flanker.
Smith returns for her second year on the provincial team. Erin's quick acceleration and ability to finish make her a devastating striker, a position she has secured for both her club and provincial teams.
Dueck has solidified the back line of the LFC defense for the past three years. Although she did not try out for the provincial program last year, Jesse's first attempt with the provincial program found favor with the coaches, solidifying her spot on the team. Her speed and strength on the ball, combined with a willingness to learn every aspect of the game will make her a benefit for any program lucky enough to have her.
The last but not least is Danielle Lagemaat. Danielle has made the U15 Alberta Provincial Team who will Travel to Winnipeg, Manitoba for the U15 Inter-Provincial Cup July 7 - 12, 2009. Danie is always working at the highest level and continues to push herself to improve. “I am very happy for Danie. She leads by example and deserves this position on the Alberta team”, says Coach Gary Saler.
But before these girls get to showcase their talents for the rest of the country they will be showcasing their talents locally in the first annual Lethbridge Football Club Girls Tournament. The Lethbridge Football Club will be holding their first annul girls tournament June 27 & 28, 2009 at the Lethbridge Sports Park Complex. The tournament will have Girls teams from from Under 10-Under 18 traveling from all over Western Canada.
